I keep hearing about more and more people who have spent their life believing they were an extrovert only to find out they are an introvert! I'm not sure whether it's because more information is available or a family member, friend or spouse has explained the difference. But some people accept the news and others reject it.

If you decide to tell your husband you may first want to consider reading (if you haven't already) The Introvert Advantage by Dr Marti Olsen Laney which is an incredible guide to introversion (check out my blog post 5 Must Read Books About Introversion). If you have the book on hand your husband may see it and be interested in reading it. Understanding that he is an introvert may help your husband to better cope in social settings - for some people just knowing they are an introvert frees them from the need to be someone they are not when socializing. Good luck to you and thanks so much for sharing!

If anyone reading this has comments or suggestions please feel free to share - would love to hear from you!

My husband is definitely an introvert but he thinks he's an extrovert. I don't even know how to tell him that he is socially awkward in situations involving a lot of people and he is unable to mingle productively. I guess this is completely opposite of people who actually think they are introverts, no?

Deb you are absolutely right! In fact, several unemployed friends are sending me job opportunities right now and I wasn't even thinking about that when I wrote this post! So I think it's good to have a variety of networking including live events with both employed and unemployed! Thanks for the reminder :)

I loved the article! Thanks for sharing it. My only thought about networking with unemployed people is, when you form a bond they are like an extension of your job search. People are sending me jobs they see that might be a good fit. They may know someone at a company you applied with and can ask to have your resume given to the hiring manager.
